Home / From Marc Masterson, artistic director
Marc Masterson was appointed artistic director in 2000. He previously served as producing director of City Theatre in Pittsburgh for 20 years. He is dedicated to building dynamic relationships between the theatre, its artists and the community.

When we sit in a dark room to watch a play, we join a web of connections between all of the people who participate in the creation of the production and the spectators who are there that night to contribute their imaginations to the completion of the event. Each person in the network of participants probably experiences the production from a different perspective, but has also become an indispensable part of the whole—creating something that is larger than the sum of its parts.

So it is with the 30th Anniversary of the Humana Festival of New American Plays and this CD-ROM. By offering you the opportunity to link all of the people who have contributed to the festival since its inception, you will create your own experience and draw your own conclusions about the web of the Humana Festival and playwrighting in America over the past three decades.

Of the thousands of people who have been part of the Humana Festival over the years, I am particularly proud of the core staff whose vision and fortitude have given the festival its unique personality. Jon Jory, of course, and his unsung partner Alexander Speer share the credit for launching and steering the festival for many years. But there are countless others, many of whom have dedicated their professional lives to this idea. It has indeed been a massive collaboration that has brought us to this anniversary.
