16th ANNUAL AFRICAN AMERICAN ART EXHIBITION
January 25 – February 21, 2010
The 16th annual African American Art Exhibition will run concurrent with the theatrical production of Ella, a musical tribute to Ella Fitzgerald. The exhibition is not theme-specific. Actors Theatre is a not-for-profit professional regional theatre located in the heart of downtown Louisville, Ky. Over 20,000 theatre and arts patrons view the exhibition, which has become a popular highlight of the region’s visual arts season.

Awards
On February 5, 2010 awards will be presented at a reception honoring artists. These awards include a Brown-Forman Corporation purchase award as well as other purchase/merit prizes. Last year, more than $6,000 was awarded!

Juror
Kevin Cole received his B.S. from University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, an M.A. in Art Education from University of Illinois at Urbana and an M.F.A. from Northern Illinois University. In the last 15 years he has received 18 grants, 14 fellowships, 49 awards in art and 31teaching awards. His artwork has been featured in over 400 exhibitions throughout the United States which includes 56 solo exhibitions, 99 group exhibitions, 91 juried exhibitions and 99 invitational exhibitions. Mr. Cole has created 30 public works in the last 15 years and his artwork is included in over 800 public, private and corporate collections throughout the United States.

Media
Original artwork must arrive properly matted, framed and in ready-to-hang condition or it will not be exhibited. Sculpture must be light enough for two people to handle. Artists may submit work with special installation requirements, only if artist is available to install and remove. Actors Theatre reserves the right to refuse any work that presents complex installation problems and/or is not acceptable for presentation.

Rules of Entry
• All artwork must be original.
• All artwork must be available for display and sale during the exhibition.
• All artwork must have been completed no more than 2 years prior and never exhibited in Louisville, Ky.
• No entries will be accepted beyond the deadline.
• Up to 6 works may be submitted per artist with 1 digital image for each two-dimensional piece [3 different views (images) must be submitted for any three-dimensional piece]. Please see Notes on Submitting Digital Images, below, for more details.
• All entries must provide a valid e-mail address and/or two (2) self-addressed, stamped envelopes for acceptance package.
• All Entries must include a completed Entry Form. See below for Entry Checklist.

ENTRY DEADLINE IS FRIDAY, OCTOBER 30, 2009

Accepted Work
• Artists are responsible for roundtrip shipment of their artwork to and from Actors Theatre in Louisville, Kentucky. Return packing postage must arrive with artwork. Further details will be provided following acceptance.
• For local artists, self delivery can be scheduled by appointment. Drop off days are January 13-15, 2010. Call Sarah Rowan at 502-584-1265 x3145 to schedule a time. (Appointments between 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. only.)
• Accepted works will be insured while on Actors Theatre’s premises through the run of the exhibition.
• Works left past pickup deadline of March 1, 2009 will not be insured.
• Any work that has been left at Actors Theatre for over 60 days past the pickup deadline will become Actors Theatre property.
• Artists will be required to submit a 50 word artist biography and a 50 word artist statement at time of acceptance.
• Cash prizes will be awarded after signed forms have been returned
• Actors Theatre retains 40% commission, please include in your price.

Notes on Submitting Your Digital Images
The quality of your digital images will influence the Juror’s decision.
• Only digital images will be accepted.
• Digital images must be sharp and have minimum dimensions of 2048x1356 pixels, submitted in both EPS and PDF formats.
• An artist submit images via e-mail to SRowan@ActorsTheatre.org or on a CD*. The CD should be in CMYK format and can be mailed to:

• Images must definitively reflect the artwork submitted.
• Include a reference sheet (word document) with the information below for each submission. (Must correspond with entry form.)

Entry Checklist
• Entry Form with signature
• EPS and PDF formats for images and reference sheet, or a CD containing digital images and reference sheet.
• Valid e-mail address and/or (2) self-addressed, stamped business size envelopes for acceptance package.

Failure to include ALL requested material will automatically eliminate you from the exhibition.
