9th Annual Juneteenth Jamboree of New Plays
Juneteenth Legacy Theatre (JLT), Kentucky's only professional African American theatre company, presents the 9th annual Juneteenth Jamboree of New Plays, a festival of staged readings about the African American experience and its legacy, hosted by Actors Theatre, June 6 - 21. Other festival activities include playwriting/acting workshops and the return of Juneteenth@Apollo, a community talent showcase, offering cash prizes to winning performers!
This year’s festival is produced by JLT’s Founding Associate Producer, Kristi Papailler and features guest artists: Obie award-winning director, Sue Lawless; Founder and Producing Director of St. Louis Black Repertory Company, Ronald J. Himes; and St. Louis Black Repertory Company Artistic Associate, Linda Kennedy. The 31-year-old St. Louis Black Repertory Company is one of the most successful professional African American theatre companies in the nation.
Jamboree schedule is as follows: play readings – Fridays and Saturdays at 8 pm followed by audience talk-backs with the evening’s playwright and cast; guest-artist led workshops – Saturdays from 3 – 4:30 pm; and Juneteenth@Apollo from 5:30 pm – 7 pm. All performances and activities will be held in the Victor Jory Theatre.
Jamboree Play Passes ($50) and individual tickets ($10) can be ordered through Actors Theatre's Box Office at 584-1205. Workshop registration is $15 and tickets for Juneteenth@Apollo are $5. Group rates and weekend passes are available. A complete festival pass for all activities is $65 (a $35 savings).

WOMEN OF SPUNK
HONORING LOCAL WOMEN WHO HAVE MADE A DIFFERENCE
On Dec 9, in honor of author Zora Neale Hurston, Actors Theatre honored local women with spunk who have overcome hardships and made a difference in their community.
Honorees, selected by an advisory group, were recognized at an event, sponsored by E.ON US, in a special pre-show reception and ceremony.
