About the Apprenticeship

Overview

As a member of the Artistic Team, the Company and Artistic Management Apprentice will develop the skills to facilitate relationships between a regional theatre and industry professionals. This apprentice works with the Company Manager to provide Actors Theatre staff, guest artists and apprentices with superior support in all aspects of housing, transportation and hospitality.

Learning Goals

Develop confidence and authority while assisting the Company Manager, learning to take a leadership role that is personally empathetic and professionally competent

Develop an understanding of Actors Equity Association and the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society contract regulations for guest artists

Learn how to manage submissions for the recruitment process and how to professionally represent the PTC to potential applicants

Develop skills in travel booking and learn to prioritize, communicate and manage information systems

Develop excellent customer service skills by communicating and implementing Actors Theatre policies

Learn how to function as a brand ambassador for a professional theatre

Learn how to handle the daily operations of an artistic office, including scheduling, analyzing artistic work, budgeting, and correspondence with internal and external collaborators

Gain knowledge of the current American Theatre landscape to become a suitable candidate for employment

Learning Strategies

Coordination of transportation and housing for guest actors, directors, designers, playwrights and other visitors

Create housing and travel documents, developing advanced skills and knowledge of Excel spreadsheets

Communication with other departments regarding the scheduling of guest artists for special events

Assist with guest wellness concerns and worker’s compensation forms

Serve as Recruitment Coordinator for the 2019-2020 Professional Training Company, including processing apprenticeship applications, scheduling interviews, and corresponding with applicants

Work with volunteers to arrange ground transportation for guest artists

Assist Company Manager in stocking and distributing actor living supplies to apartments/hotels, and overflow units, learning to anticipate needs and organize housing

Process reimbursement paperwork for guest artists and process payment of credit card billings and other expenses, developing book-keeping and budget-planning skills

Process work orders, budget documents, event forms, and other in-house documents to assure expedient and reliable organization of day-to-day operations

Attend staff meeting as both a participant and note-taker

Ideal Candidate Possesses

A self-motivated work ethic suitable for a fast-paced environment

The flexibility to work with various collaborators in rapidly changing environments

A good sense of humor

Strong organizational skills and an attention to detail

High ethical standards when handling sensitive and confidential information

Proficient computer skills, specifically Microsoft Office Suite

Strong oral and written communication skills

A reliable personal vehicle and valid driver’s license

Alumni Include

Company and Assistant Company Managers, Event Coordinators, Executive and Personal Assistant, Resident Life Directors, Alumni Association Relations, Director of Career Services and Program Director

Schedule

This apprenticeship work Monday through Friday from 9AM to 5PM, in addition to being on call Mondays, Wednesdays, and every other weekend for special events and emergencies. It is possible to hold outside employment with prior approval.
