About the Apprenticeship

Overview

The Marketing Apprenticeship is designed to give participants an understanding of how a marketing and sales professional operates within a regional theatre setting and teach the basic principles of marketing and promoting a season. The apprenticeship will enable you to apply established principles of marketing in a workplace situation.

Learning Goals

Understand the mission of the nonprofit and how the role of marketing assists it in carrying out its mission

Understand the challenges and opportunities with which marketing professionals in a nonprofit setting are presented

Understand how to manage a visual brand through the creation of marketing materials

Learn how to identify different target audiences and have an understanding of tools used to market to them

Learn how to make data-supported decisions on why and how certain marketing strategies are implemented

Ideal Candidate Possesses

Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail

Ability to manage multiple ongoing projects in a fast-paced environment

Excellent written and oral communication skills with strong computer literacy

Knowledge of or experience with box office or ticketing systems is preferred, but not required

Learning Strategies

Assist the Marketing Manager on Mainstage Series productions (Brown-Forman Series, Pops Plays and the Humana Festival of New American Plays). Lead marketing efforts for Professional Training Company Series Productions. Perform work in the following areas:

Create and execute a Marketing campaign

Digital Marketing

Content Creation for cross-platform strategies
Social Engagement (both organic and promoted)
Email

Grassroots

Develop skill in Microsoft Excel and Tessitura ticketing system
Manage and track a budget.
Develop proficiency in copywriting, revision and proofreading
Function as a brand ambassador at a regional theatre
Work as part of a creative team.

Develop your career, including but not limited to the following:

Identify professionals whose work you admire and whose position mirrors your own career ambitions
Identify skills needed and skills gaps
Create key application materials, including a personal statement and a timeline to meet application deadlines
Connect with professionals and organizations locally and nationally
Manage relationships both locally and nationally throughout your career

Alumni Include

Company and Assistant Company Managers, Event Coordinators, Executive and Personal Assistant, Resident Life Directors, Alumni Association Relations, Director of Career Services and Program Director

Schedule

This apprenticeship work Monday through Friday from 9AM to 5PM, in addition to being on call Mondays, Wednesdays, and every other weekend for special events and emergencies. It is possible to hold outside employment with prior approval.
