In Memory of Frazier Marsh

Actors Theatre of Louisville celebrates the life of Frazier Marsh, who served as the company’s longtime Production Manager and was a beloved staff member for over 30 years. After his tenure at ATL ended in 2008, Marsh continued to donate and support the organization. Most recently, Marsh was a board member for The Roy Cockrum Foundation, an organization dedicated to awarding grants to support world-class performing arts projects in not-for-profit professional theatres throughout the country. We offer our sincerest condolences to all who are mourning his passing.
In addition to his work as Production Manager, Marsh also served as a Production Stage Manager and as a Staff Director, directing over 100 mainstage and second stage productions at ATL. These productions toured the world with performances in Greece, Bulgaria, Russia, Czechoslovakia, and Romania. Marsh also directed ATL’s annual production of A Christmas Carol for 17 seasons.
Beyond his significant contributions to the theatre field, Marsh’s passion for community service is evident in his dedication to Christ Church Episcopal Cathedral and The Kidz Club, an organization responsible for the transportation of medically fragile children to prescribed pediatric extended care facilities.
Alongside his national and global impact, Marsh inspired and trained numerous artists and technicians who passed through the halls of Actors Theatre and earned the respect and admiration of countless others. It is clear that Marsh’s devotion to service and the arts have enriched this community in myriad ways, and in that spirit, we have taken the time to gather some thoughts from current staff who had the opportunity to work with him:
"Every memory I have of working with Frazier is a fond one. He was the humor needed on a bad day; he was the one to pull off the best practical jokes when you least expected it. He was kind, patient, talented, creative, and never ever made anyone feel less than others in the room." – Julie Gallegos, Director of Guest Services
“Most of my memories of Frazier are filled with different versions of his laugh...his laugh indicated his deviousness, his charm, and his overwhelming sense of humor. He was my boss for over ten years and he was always witty and filled with laughter. Even in the dark of tech you could tell where he was by his laugh.” – Paul Werner, Director of Production & Operations
“I remember Frazier as such a jovial and kind presence at Actors Theatre when I was just starting out here, always quick with a welcoming smile whenever a young theatre newbie popped into his office with a question. In addition to juggling the many facets of his role as a production manager, he was also a wonderful director, and I’ll warmly remember his creative work as well as his generosity behind the scenes.” – Amy Wegener, Literary Director
