Mimi is a 45-minute dance-theatre work by Ambo Dance Theatre that invites audiences into an intimate encounter with four people navigating life within the sex industry. Blending burlesque-inspired modern dance, spoken word, and live multimedia, the piece reframes sex work through the lens of survival, agency, and autonomy while examining the hidden costs of pursuing financial freedom. Developed in Louisville, Kentucky and rooted in lived experience, Mimi emphasizes audience engagement through proximity and shared presence, using movement, mirrors, and projection to foster empathy and connection.
