The Sweet Life: The Ruth Hunt Story

Gateway Regional Arts Center Presents

The Sweet Life: The Ruth Hunt Story

written by Cat Rhoden Goguen

directed by Jordan Campbell

Overview

The Sweet Life: The Ruth Hunt Story is a live radio play that spotlights the groundbreaking power of women in small towns - how vision, grit, and care can quietly shape an entire community. Rooted in the true Ruth Hunt Candies legacy in Mount Sterling, it brings to life a story starting in 1921 with a woman’s confections reached far beyond her candy kitchen - all the way to the White House. With live Foley sound effects and in-the-room performance energy, The Sweet Life is both a love letter to Kentucky history and a reminder that some of the most transformative leadership starts exactly where people least expect it - right at home.

Originally produced by the Gateway Regional Arts Center, Mt. Sterling, KY through support from the National Endowment for the Arts. World premiere performance held on February 6, 2026 in the Lewis Apperson White Performance Hall, Gateway Regional Arts Center, Mt. Sterling, Kentucky.
